Rain & Defaults

Unfortunately, Racquet War cannot control Mother Nature. In all the years we have been running our events, there has only been one weekend completely cancelled due to weather. Amelia Island, FL (2017) was disrupted by Hurricane Irma. But from time to time, we encounter rain that delays us for a couple of hours or sometimes it is a complete washout for the day. Please know that we ALWAYS do our best to provide the players as much court time as possible. The RW team and the pros at each facility work in conjunction to make this all happen. The worst case scenario is when it rains us out on Sunday and we obviously do not have the time to make up the matches. We must not only keep in mind the players who are wanting to play, but also the players who have already made travel plans for later in the day. If this circumstance does happen, we sincerely apologize, as it is not the way we would like our events to end. As much as we would like to give refunds or even partial refunds, it simply does not calculate out for us to be able to do that as our expenses are locked in for the weekend. We hope all of you can understand!

One unavoidable thing in all events, especially some of our larger tournaments are defaults. We try as hard as possible to prevent these but people get hurt or things happen out of their control and certainly ours. We always do our best to backfill missing teams, but it is obviously a difficult task on such short notice. If you are one of the unfortunate players to get a default (it will happen), just know we are disappointed as well.

The Racquet War experience, besides the competitive tennis, is a fun weekend with friends filled with exciting events, lots of laughs, and a memorable time overall.

Draws Available

Womens and Mixed Doubles. (Since we are not running the tournament by NTRP levels, all levels are allowed.)

How Double Teams Can Be Formed?

All teams are made up of just two people. You and your partner will play all your matches together for the entire weekend. One of the best part of Racquet War's waterfall format is the ability for players to partner up with anyone at any level. For example, if you have a NTRP USTA 3.0 rating and want to play with a good friend of yours who has a NTRP USTA 4.5 rating you can do so. The format (described below) of the tournament ends up putting you and your partner in the correct bracket for your level.

Tournament Format

All teams will start out in a waterfall bracket (see example of a waterfall bracket on the Rules and Regulations page found below). In the waterfall bracket, all teams will play two 8 game no-ad pro sets to determine each doubles team competitive levels. After the two rounds of 8 game pro sets each team will play a minimum of two regular scoring matches with a tiebreaker used as a 3rd set if needed. With this unique format, players do not have to worry about NTRP rating and can partner up with whoever they wish. All double teams end up playing against other double teams of similar skill in their final bracket. Players will only have the option of playing in one draw, Womens or Mixed Doubles, as that in itself will be a ton of tennis for the weekend.
